This is not a dog problem, this is a human problem.
Our shelters are overflowing because so many dogs remain unspayed and unneutered, leading to an overwhelming number of unplanned litters with nowhere to go. Every one of these puppies needs a home. Preventing each litter of up to 12 pups (that will have pups of their own), means fewer dogs competing for limited shelter resources, fosters, and adopters—freeing up help for countless other dogs in need.
Inadequate animal welfare legislations and lack of enforcement of existing laws allows for irresponsible breeding and neglect to persist.
Many puppies are still bred intentionally for sale online and pet stores. These operations prioritize profit over the well-being of the dogs, leading to overpopulation, overbreeding and a large number of dogs in poor conditions that people give up on due to ongoing health issues.
Economic challenges, such as a lack of affordable housing that allow dogs, and rising vet bills lead to pet abandonment. Many animal shelters and rescue organizations rely on donations and government funding: limited financial resources hinder their ability to hire qualified staff and provide necessary medical care.
There is insufficient public awareness about the dog overpopulation, people still buy their dogs of the internet or in a pet store and don’t spay and neuter their pets. Educate others, spay & neuter your pet & donate!
